Where Caligula stood - the sacred springs of Clitunno in Umbria
I Fonti di Clitunno in Umbria were a stop on the Grand Tour of the 18th and 19th century and visited by Lord Byron amongst many early tourists. But the sacred springs go back to pre-Roman times and the ancient Umbrians. In Roman times it was an oracle who we know was consulted by Caligula. Nowadays they are still an enchanted place and well worth visiting.
