In 2017, Burger King launched a promotion called Whopper Severance, offering free Whoppers to people who got fired. The idea was simple—go on LinkedIn and publicly announce that you’d lost your job.

Once you posted it, Burger King would send a link, and you could redeem it for a free Whopper. The campaign blew up fast, and LinkedIn was suddenly filled with people openly admitting they’d been let go.

But there was a catch—Burger King limited the offer to just 2,500 Whoppers, and once that number was claimed, the deal ended. The first 100 people who joined in didn't just get a burger—they also received a career coaching session. So they walked away with advice… and a Whopper.
