Most Affordable SUV 2021 - The Best Cheap SUV Ever Made (USA) | Cheapest SUV 2021

Time for something new!
I recently bought a new car and did a lot of research on what kind of car to get. I did know that I for sure wanted an SUV for extra space, comfort, and safety but What SUV Should I Buy 2021?

At first, I looked at Tesla's but the problem with Tesla was that they were expensive, had limited range, and could not take full advantage of any federal EV tax credit. Plus, since the Tesla Model Y was above $45,000, I couldn’t take advantage of even the Washington State EV credit.

Low and behold, that’s when I discovered the Rav4 Prime Plug In Hybrid Electric.

The Rav4 Prime Plug In Hybrid Electric part is what’s awesome about the car. It has an 18.1-kilowatt-hour battery in it which allows it to travel up to 42 miles [67.6 km] on pure electricity. Since most of my driving every day is less than 42 miles, this means that I basically never need to pump gas.

The battery of Rav4 Prime Plug In Hybrid Electric is a perfect size battery because it’s just big enough to get the MAXIMUM federal tax credit and to do all your daily driving, but the entire thing is not fully electric which means it also keeps costs down. As the name implies, it has a gas motor as well, so if you want to go on road trips, no problem, it can go a whopping 600 miles before refueling.

600 miles allows me to do things like camping, or long road trips without any range anxiety. I don’t have to wait 20 minutes at a supercharger. I can just pump gas and go whenever I feel like it and that freedom was something that was super important to me.

This is also where more of the savings come in. I live in Washington where I pay only 10.36 cents per kilowatt-hour which means in order to charge this car from empty to full, it will only cost me just $1.88 and I can travel 42 miles. Compared to a regular rav4 which has a combined 30 mpg city and highway, when you account for the average cost of gas right now in Washington which is $2.77, the regular rav4 costs $3.87 to go the same 42 miles.

That means, that if you’re driving 42 miles per day with the rav4 prime, you would save $726.35 per year! And that is in 2020 when the gas prices are LOW. After 150k miles, your savings on gas could be more than $7000 or it might even be over $10k if gas prices came up a bit.

For the amount of tech this car, the cost of ownership of this car to 150k miles is insanely low. So low in fact that it is literally the cheapest SUV to own. I could find any other SUV, lower than this as you’d need to buy a super fuel-efficient SUV for $15k to get the same bang for the buck and they do not exist.

The closest thing I came to is the 2021 Ford EcoSport which has an MSRP of 20k but still, the total cost of ownership is probably 7k more than the Rav4 prime.

Obviously this video has several caveats.
You have to live in a country and state that can take full advantage of the EV credit.
You live in a state that has cheap electricity costs.
You drive on average less than 42 miles a day.

And for me, living in Washington State, it’s the greatest deal that I could find.
