Kadhipaten Steam working hard, West Java, Indonesia

Kadhipaten was the most westerly mill in Java some 50km from Cirebon on the Bandung Road. Its 670mm gauge railway was unique which meant their locos would not have found a new home after the mill closed in 1999. Loaded trains faced a gentle climb from the fields to the eponymous small town before a final steep ascent. If you throw in the fact that trains here tended to run much earlier than elsewhere in West Java then you had an operation that any visiting photographer would find it hard to ignore. The two locomotives seen in Ross Sadler's video are large D&B 0-8-0 1 and Maffei 0-8-0T 4.
Originally filmed by Ross Sadler on Super 8 sound, digitized through frame-by-frame transfer and enhanced with Topaz AI.
