I Built a Pro-Grade Network With Literal E-Waste

It ain't gotta be pretty, as long as it works. Welcome to the "edroom"—my shared-bedroom home lab where I’m proving you don’t need a dedicated server room or a massive budget to build a professional-grade network. Today, I’m taking you on a tour of my current setup, running on a standard residential Coax connection.

From my managed D-Link switch to the "mystery box" Windows 7 PC I’m prepping for an OPNsense transformation, this is the reality of home networking. We’re balancing the constraints of a shared family space with the goal of total network control.

In this video, we cover:

The Entry Point: Managing a residential Coax modem and the laundry room smart panel.

The Backbone: Segmenting lab traffic with the D-Link DGS-1100-08V2.

The 'edroom' Server: A look at my Ubuntu/CasaOS build running Jellyfin and Immich.

The Roadmap: Why I'm turning an old unbranded Windows 7 machine into a dedicated OPNsense gateway.

If you’re interested in breathing life into old hardware and taking control of your own home network, hit that subscribe button and follow the build.
