I Replaced My Home Router With a ‘Broken’ Enterprise Firewall | Deep Networking Lab Project Log

I replaced my ISP router with a “broken” Netgate SG-5100 enterprise firewall that had been sitting on a shelf at a customer site.

What started as a mystery appliance with no web interface and no IP address turned into a full home network migration involving serial console access, pfSense, subnet changes, access points, and some extremely questionable USB shenanigans.

This was my first real experience setting up enterprise-style network infrastructure at home, and honestly… it went way better than I expected.

Hardware shown:

* Netgate SG-5100
* HP Envy Phoenix
* CasaOS server (“edroom”)
* TP-Link Omada EAP650 — https://amzn.to/3RMPEXI

It ain’t gotta be pretty. It’s just gotta work.
