In 7 hours on a Saturday, Grandpa Ora’s roof is completely removed and a new roof installed all the way through ceiling decking, rafters and fascia.

In Amish culture, the traditional barn raisings are famous for building an entire enormous cattle and dairy barn from the ground up in a single day, including moving the dairy cows in to their stalls for evening milking- on the same day!

Here we are not having a barn raising but are getting together to get the fire- damaged roof replaced. It was a great help and Grandpa is thankful for all who joined in, so everyone got to carry home their own jar of his famous Amish apple butter.

The Amish work party “Frolic” is from the German frohlich (joyful- happy)

It especially brings all the participants joy to assist in helping with others when they have a disaster such as Grandpa’s fire, and that is where the Frolic originated- it was considered a party and a joyous event.
