Ukrainian troops have eliminated dozens of Russian troops and captured several others in an operation to liberate the village of Sukhetske in eastern Donetsk region. The operation was carried out by the units of the 82nd Bukovinian Separate Assault Brigade. During the fighting, Ukrainian soldiers engaged in a fierce battle with Russian forces of more than 60 troops. As a result of the combat, 44 Russian soldiers were killed, 8 were wounded and 9 others surrendered. The video footage of the operation has been shared in social media platforms. The video shows Ukrainian soldiers attack Russian positions and capture Russian soldiers. Ukrainian troops can also be seen raising the Ukrainian flag in the village. The reports of the recapture of Sukhetske comes a day after Ukraine’s SKALA battalion liberated the village of Torske in the Lyman direction of Donetsk region. Donetsk remains one of the fiercest and most contested fronts of the war, as Russian forces continue attempts to advance into Ukrainian-held areas while Ukrainian troops maintain strong defensive positions in key towns.
Independent analysts report that although Russian troops have made some localized gains, they have not achieved rapid progress in capturing the remaining Ukrainian-held parts of Donetsk. Russia is now unlikely to meet its goal of fully seizing the eastern region by the end of 2025. The heightened tension in the region comes amid ongoing failed attempts to negotiate a peace settlement in the war, which has now entered its fourth year.
