Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday praised the results of his talks with the European leaders in London and called for more sanctions against Russia.

"The Russians are now sending a signal to the world that sanctions do not seem to be affecting their economy, everyone can see the queues at gas stations in Russia, the bankruptcy of Russian regions, and the deficit in Russia's federal budget," Zelenskyy said in his daily video briefing. "It is sanctions that are one of the most painful things for Putin, personally."

According to Associated Press Zelenskyy was in London Friday for talks with two dozen European leaders who have pledged military help to shield his country from future Russian attacks if a ceasefire stops the more than a three-year conflict.

"There is a political willingness in Europe to send frozen Russian assets to fully support Ukraine and Ukrainians, and yesterday the European Council adopted a political decision," he said. "There is a clear format for the use of assets, and this format exists."

The meeting hosted by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer aimed to step up pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding momentum to recent measures that have included a new round of sanctions from the United States and European countries on Russia’s vital oil and gas export earnings.

The talks also addressed ways of helping protect Ukraine’s power grid from Russia’s almost daily drone and missiles attacks as winter approaches, enhancing Ukrainian air defenses, and supplying Kyiv with longer-range missiles that can strike deep inside Russia.

Zelenskyy has urged the U.S. to send Tomahawk missiles, an idea U.S. President Donald Trump has flirted with.
