On our summer roadtrip along the Norwegian Fjords, we find Loen. We arrived by driving over the fjords. It is such a scenic drive. Lake Loen, Lovatnet, is perfect for camping next to the beautiful green glacial water. It is such a peaceful place.
But unfortunately, there is a dramatic history about this place.

The beautiful, untamed nature and the valley´s dramatic history make a visit to Lodalen an experience not to be missed. At the head of the valley lies Kjenndalsbreen glacier, which is the lowest-lying offshoot of Jostedalsbreen glacier.

Twice, great blocks if stone have fallen from Mt.Ramnefjell into the Lovatnet Lake. The floodwave that was created destroyed the villages of Nesdal and Bødal and 135 people lst their lives. The people of inner Nordfjord will always associate the years 1905 and 1936 with the Lodalen disasters.

The way from Loen to Kjenndalsbreen Glacier is amazing. You will pass the wild Loelva river, then drive next to the lake. You will feel very tiny. It is just such an impressive scenery. Continue the road, find yourself lost in this Norwegian beauty & head to the glacier.
