Rick Burnett of GrinderSwitch Greatest Hits
This is a new series of videos we're calling Southern Rock Insider Greatest Hits to celebrate our one year anniversary. For our Greatest Hits series, we are playing snippets of the full interviews that we've put out in our first year.
The very first interview we shot was with Rick Burnett, the last surviving member of the original Grinderswitch. The first three albums Grinderswitch recorded were on Capricorn Records. On their fourth album, which was on Atco/Rabbit Records, they changed their name slightly to Grinder Switch. All four of those albums were recorded downstairs (in Capricorn Studio) from where this video was shot.
In "Rick Burnett of GrinderSwitch Greatest Hits," Rick talks about:
how Grinderswitch became the first band name dropped in Charlie Daniels classic hit "The South's Gonna Do It,"
his first day ever in Macon when he just happened to be in Capricorn Studio when the Allman Brothers recorded a song that turned out to be their biggest hit,
an encounter with Leon Wilkeson while GrinderSwitch was on the rode with Lynyrd Skynyrd,
and Rick fondly discusses his fellow bandmates in GrinderSwitch, who are sadly all gone.
All of this and more in less than ten minutes - please enjoy!
