NSW Double Colour Light Signalling - Explained!

This video attempts to explain double colour light signalling, as used in Sydney and Newcastle, in the Australian state of New South Wales. This signalling system is designed to provide substantial advanced notice of a red signal ahead, with at minimum of two (and as many as four or more) previous signals warning of the 'Stop' ahead. This is very important in the suburbs of Sydney, where long and heavy interstate goods trains share trackage with frequently stopping suburban trains. The close signal spacing means that a single warning signal would not provide enough stopping distance for many goods trains. This video only covers the aspects displayed by the main lights, I have not attempted to cover route indicators or other signs.

The main image used in this video was taken at Clyde, and features a Pacific National coal train lead by 8255 and three classmates. I have digitally altered this signal to show all the aspects for demonstration purposes - I doubt this particular signal would actually be able to show all those aspects (certainly not Low Speed).
