The Project refuses to apologise for airing 'bizarre anti-Israel conspiracy theories'

Sky News host Rita Panahi says Channel Ten’s show The Project is “refusing to apologise for airing an anti-Israel conspiracy theory” concerning the cause of the Beirut explosion.

The death toll in Beirut has now risen to at least 175 people, with 5,000 or more injured after scores of ammonium nitrate exploded in a warehouse after a fire in the port capital of Lebanon.

In its coverage of the disaster, The Project invited on a guest who insinuated the explosion may have been an attack emanating from Israel.

According to Sky News host Rowan Dean, The Project’s Waleed Aly has a long history of “misrepresenting” current events.

The segment has since been criticised by Liberal MP Dave Sharma who said "giving a platform to baseless conspiracy theories and then failing to contest or challenge them" is "bizarre and grossly irresponsible".
