'Spectator' government needs to employ serious measures to make economy 'more productive'

Business Columnist Terry McCrann says the government can't be a "spectator" amid the teetering Australian economy.

Australia’s GDP has grown by just 0.1 per cent in the first three months of the year.

In a Senate estimates hearing, RBA governor Michele Bullock has said if inflation continues to grow, the RBA could hike interest rates again.

“It’s not an economy in which the government should be sitting there as a spectator,” Mr McCrann told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

“The government should be doing the things to relieve the cost-of-living pressures.

“Not just with a $300 energy handout – serious measures which will actually make this economy more productive.”
