The Simplified Advanced Encryption Standard (S-AES) Explained
#cryptology, #cryptography, #cryptanalysis
In this video, we explain how the Simplified AES (S-AES) works. We discuss all the building blocks as well as the key schedule in detail. Finally, we will create a workspace in CrypTool 2 and use the S-AES component to encrypt and decrypt text.
If you want to implement (for fun!) the cipher yourself, you should read the following two papers -- where [2] is the original publication of the cipher:
[1] Holden Joshua, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology "A Simplified AES Algorithm“. 2010 (Figures by Holden Lana)[2] Musa, Mohammad A., Edward F. Schaefer, and Stephen Wedig. "A Simplified AES Algorithm and its Linear and Differential Cryptanalyses“. Cryptologia 27.2 (2003): 148-177.
If you are interested in learning the fundaments of cryptology, let me invite you to have a look at our video series about the basics of cryptology, also for beginners: https://youtu.be/jbumW7Ym03o
