Basics of Cryptology – Part 14 (Modern Cryptography – Passwords)
#cryptology, #cryptography, #cryptanalysis, #lecture, #course, #tutorial
In this video, we show the basics of cryptology (cryptology = cryptography and cryptanalysis).
This video here gives an introduction to passwords. You will see how these are stored and verified. Also, we have a look at password security, thus, we will have a look at different attacks on passwords (brute-force, dictionary, and rainbow tables (short!)). For rainbow tables, we will probably have an additional video in the future. Additionally, we have a look at password space sized and complexity.
This video also gives an introduction to "good" passwords and against which attacks good passwords protect.
On the CrypTool-Online webpage, we have a look at a password generator and a password meter. In CrypTool 2, we show how to store and verify passwords. Also, we show a dictionary attack on SHA-256 hashes passwords.
