Geed Beer Rejo Beer (Plant a tree, plant hope) | Mohamed Yassin Abdirahman | TEDxHargeisa

Mohamed was inspired by two documentaries that he watched as Senior in High School, one about how Somaliland’s landscape used to be before it headed on a path to deforestation and another about the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai.
He has taken it as his life mission to help turn around the country and to tackle major issues that devastate its communities such as the reoccurring droughts of the region, he plans to do this all by planting one tree at a time. Mohamed has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Hargeisa. He is the founder of Rejo Beer-Geed Beer, a youth-led initiative to tackle climate change by planting trees, promoting awareness of the environment and restoring hope.
He is Head of Planning and Coordination for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Prior to this, he worked for several organizations both in public and private institutions including the Imperial Institute of Environmental Consulting, Ministry of Research and Technology and Somaliland Environmental Protection Centre.
