Bottega Veneta Spring / Summer 2017

MILAN — A change of scenery was on the cards early Saturday morning at Palazzo Brera for Tomas Maier as he staged his Bottega Veneta runway show for the first time in recent memory off-site from the maison’s headquarters, which is nearly a 30-minute taxi ride southeast from the Duomo. For a brand that takes great pride in its commitment to private luxury, the intimacy of its own show space cannot be matched, but for the occasion of its 50th anniversary today grandeur on a more public scale felt wholly appropriate. Walking in the runway show were a trio of models at Next including Anna Cleveland, Grace Elizabeth, and Binx. That legendary Lauren Hutton was also in the lineup hints at the loftiness of the occasion, which by the time Maier and the atelier took their runway bows had produced a reverent hush and a few tears backstage. And for good reason, the occasion was a long time coming and fully earned for Maier 15 years into his tenure as creative director for the house.
