44 years after the movie ‘Jaws’ we still have in our mind horrifying pictures of sharp teeth. Bloodthirsty killer, death machine… The ‘Jaws’ made really bad reputation for this unique super predator, for the great white shark.
Are they really dangerous? How big is your chance to be attacted by a great white shark? What’s their role in the enviroment?
Craig Ferreira, great white shark expert, researches sharks behavior since many years. “The chance to be killed by a great white shark is less then the chance to be killed in your car while you’re driving to go surfing.”
“While sharks kill an average of 10-20 humans a year, humans kill 100 million sharks each year,” he says.
These ultimate ocean predator are intelligent and highly inquisitive creatures. They have personalities with more depth and nuance and are not just mindless eating machines. And they are not wasteful like humans. If they are not hungry they are hunting.
The great white shark is everything – the mystery, the danger, the beauty and death.
