Dr. Zubin D’souza - Fostering the Power of Neurodivergence | Dr. Zubin D’souza | TEDxISH
In his thought-provoking talk, Dr. Zubin D’Souza opens with his own nervousness about public speaking, then masterfully weaves humor, mythology, and personal experience to discuss inclusivity and neurodivergence. He recalls the story of Hephaestus, a Greek god cast out because of his deformity, who later rose to fame as a master craftsman—a powerful reminder of the potential within all individuals when given the chance to thrive.
Zubin, diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, points out that ancient societies like the Greeks embraced differences, while modern culture often fails to do the same. He challenges our tendency to judge neurodivergent minds, noting that 15-20% of the population is neurodivergent, yet so many remain marginalized or unemployed. Highlighting NASA’s Neurodivergent Network as a beacon of hope, he stresses the value of diverse ways of thinking.
For Zubin, the lesson from Hephaestus’s story is clear: if we nurture each individual’s uniqueness, we can create something extraordinary. His closing message is a call to build an inclusive society, one where everyone’s strengths contribute to a shared vision of humanity at its best. Dr. Zubin D’souza joined ISH as the Dean of Culinary and Practical Arts, is a graduate of the prestigious OCLD and holds two PhDs. One in Organizational Behaviour and the Second is in a
topic that he is absolutely passionate about - Human Analytics. He calls Mumbai home even though he has travelled the world in his 26 years as a Chef. He is also the author of 11 books and is currently working on his 12th. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
