"Noël Devos described this waltz as “spectacular” because of the expressiveness of the piece. Mignone used the whole range of the bassoon with large leaps to symbolize the sentiment of pain. In measure three, five, seven, and ten the grace notes are clearly notated before the beat by Mignone. These grace notes give us the impression of a sigh, thus adding a sense of drama to the music.
