His Last Mass Was The Morning Before The Battle… Nobody Knew | Vincent Capodanno #history #wwii

The sky was blue. The sun was bright.
On Sunday, September 3, 1967, Father Capodanno celebrated his last Mass in the village of An Hoa, south of Da Nang. A corporal who served as altar server that morning remembered the sky as a beautiful blue and the sun bright. Nobody knew it was his last.
The next morning, Operation Swift began. A standard search-and-destroy mission turned into a sky lit up with enemy mortar fire. Father Capodanno was there unarmed running toward it.
The same hands that held the Eucharist that morning were raised over dying Marines by evening.
One last Sunday. One final sunrise. Then eternity.
