He Refused To Kill — But Ran Into Enemy Fire To Save Everyone | Thomas W. Bennett #wwii #history

He hated war. But he loved people more.
Thomas Bennett was a deeply religious 21-year-old from West Virginia who believed killing was wrong so he enlisted as a conscientious objector and became a medic. He arrived in Vietnam on January 1, 1969. On February 9, under intense enemy fire, he ran through heavy gunfire to save wounded soldiers — again and again. On February 11, warned it was impossible to reach a wounded man pinned under enemy fire — he leaped forward anyway. He was mortally wounded saving his comrade. He became the only conscientious objector to earn the Medal of Honor in the Vietnam War. No weapon. Just courage.
