Meeting Amazing Street Children in Manila at 7-11

I went for a stroll in Manila, bouncing between air conditioned 7-11s to save myself from the heat where I meet these street kids opening doors for people and asking for change. They liked posing for the camera.

They smelled like homeless people back in the States and had a lot of bumps and stuff on their skin. The boy would grab my arm to look at the camera which made me very uncomfortable but I didn't want to push them away and make them feel something was wrong with them so I just went with it.

I heard the priest that Sunday say "If you want to see God then help poor people" or something like that. I was at a loss as to what to get them. The employee recommended the Busog Sisig meal for them because it wasn't too expensive, like 40 Pesos or 60 cents or something. I wanted to get them something to drink too. Water is basic but I wanted to get them something nice and somehow settled on Powerade, which cost more than the Busog Meal.

They were dirty and I thought they should wash too but how do we do that? Do I get soap and water? So many questions and doubts led me to inaction. I felt that I should have done more somehow.

The kids were great and surprisingly, didn't ask me for anything. They watched me leave and cheekily waive goodbye, which reminded me of Koreans who walk you out of the driveway. Not to be sentimental, but truly, I saw that God loves them.
