The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a people-friendly mascot named Udai to simplify public understanding of Aadhaar services and make communication more inclusive and relatable. Selected through a national design and name competition hosted on the MyGov platform, the mascot reflects citizen participation and trust-building in digital governance. The initiative aims to present Aadhaar-related information in a simpler and more approachable manner for over a billion residents of India.
The Aadhaar mascot Udai is expected to help citizens better understand various Aadhaar services such as updates, authentication, offline verification, selective sharing of information, adoption of new technologies, and responsible usage of Aadhaar. By using a friendly visual identity, UIDAI seeks to bridge communication gaps and enhance awareness among diverse sections of society. The launch event, held in Thiruvananthapuram, also highlighted the role of public participation, with hundreds of entries received from students, professionals, and designers across the country.
This initiative is an important example of technology-driven governance, citizen engagement, and digital public infrastructure, making it highly relevant for UPSC and State PCS examinations. It is especially useful for GS Paper II (Governance) and GS Paper III (Technology & Digital Initiatives), as it demonstrates how institutions use innovative communication tools to strengthen transparency, trust, and public outreach.
