Here the most common Italian filler words & interjections

1. Instead of saying ‘Non lo so’ (I don’t know), say, ‘Boh!’ and shrug your shoulders.

2. When annoyed or confused, say ‘Uffa!’. This means, ‘Damn!’ or ‘How annoying!’

3. To change the topic or make a rebuttal, say ‘Allora’, this means ‘so’, ‘well’, ‘then’, or, ‘in that case’.

4. When seeing someone you know well, greet them with a ‘Ehi!’ which is the Italian version of saying ‘Hey!’ or ‘Yo!’.

5. Not sure about something, say, Mah! This means ‘Who knows!’.

6. When giving your opinion or making a point, say ‘Be!’. This is short for bene, similar to the English ‘Well…’.
