Common AC issues on older Mercedes Benz W123 W126 W124

Air conditioning systems can be troublesome and it does not matter if they are R12 or R134A systems. Here are the most often encountered issues including the compressor, min pressure switch, high gas temp switch, condenser, dryer, expansion valve, evaporator, engine gas cooler, and compressor oil. Whether or not your are just fixing one component or you are rebuilding the whole system this is a good video that should help with troubleshooting.

Note: The red high/ low speed fan speed switch on the dryer is actually the S32 high pressure AC switch, which is open at 12Bar and closes at 16Bar on US spec W126 (green switch 15/20Bar). The coolant temp switch S25 105C/115C is located on the engine and will eventually switch off the compressor.
