Asylum System in Chaos as Rwanda Plan is Priti Patel's figleave - Is this UK or 1930s Germany?

It is clear and somewhat sad that Priti Patel has succeeded in the Courts in enforcing her Madagascar solution, at least in principle, for removing people from the United Kingdom based on, in part, their nationality and sex.

This is clearly an inhumane policy - designed to target the most vulnerable in society - and it is clearly a policy that appears to discriminate against certain groups.

It is rather more reminicisent of the 1930’s Nazi plan to relocate Jews to Madagascar than to actually deal with the crisis facing the asylum system at present in the UK.

As of the timing of this video the HO is proposing to remove about 7 or 8 people at a cost of some £500,000.

Some rational people might think this a complete waste of time and precious tax payers money and that the money spent might be better spent on improving the asylum process in the UK and spending the money on more staff and making quicker decisions -

As opposed to pandering to the right wing.

To put it into context as we will discuss further with a backlog of over 70,000 asylum claims in the UK system who have waited over 6 months for a decision it would take some 1,000 flights to get rid of the backlog -

I am not good at mathematics but you can only guess at the sums involved, money that could actually be usefully spent on reforming the system.

Also a question that no one wants to ask is why is the government not sending Ukrainians to Rwanda, a country that is not well known for its human rights record.
Indeed, it appears that individuals from say Afghanistan who “missed the flight” and had recourse to people smugglers might find themselves in the African country while Ukrainians are not.

Of course there is a solution and one that has been implemented for Ukrainians - screen them before they get the chance to come to the UK - but this would mean setting up centres near, obviously not in, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Eritrea to name but a few.
As to the idea that this move will deter people - this is plainly not true as more people are risking their lives in the Channel every day.
Furthermore since it seems to be single men that are due to be deported to camps in Africa -
but not women and children - this exposes the most vulnerable people who have had to flee their homes into the hands of the very smugglers the HO says it is committed to fighting.

Perhaps the real reason for trumpeting a flight which may never in fact take off is that

Priti Patel has been accused of ‘disastrous leadership’ as asylum backlog increases again.

Now for the truth behind the rhetoric and huge waste of public money, which is that this scheme in my view is to cover up the utter mess that Priti Patel has presided over at the Home Office.

The number of asylum claims made in the UK has climbed to it’s record highest in nearly two decades while the backlog of cases waiting to be determined continues to soar.

The latest Q1 Immigration figures 2022 shows backlog of asylum claims awaiting a decision after more than 6 months rose to an unbelievable figure of 73, 207.

understandably, as she failed to cope up with the increasing number of outstanding asylum claims.

The quarterly statistics published by the Home Office shows that a significant number of asylum claims are still to be determined after more than 6 months has grown in every quarter of the current Home Secretary’s term of office.

At least one can say she has been consistent in this!
