eco+tour | Johnson Middle School
GoPro footage takes you on a tour of the LEED Silver Johnson Middle School.
Music by Epidemic Sound.
Westminster Unified School District embraced a philosophy of healthy and nurturing learning environments, which is emphasized in the buildings and the site development of the middle school campus.
To address the curricular needs identified in the master plan, and to effectively utilize the space within the existing campuses, a new two-story science and technology building, a new gymnasium/multipurpose room and the renovation of an existing building into a new resource center and media library was built. These buildings are informed by the location of the sun and are orientated to maximize opportunities for photovoltaic technology, daylighting and reduction of heat gain.
Each building is designed to be a “living machine”, with operable windows that allow an abundance of daylight and fresh air, and transparency from interior to interior, as well as interior to exterior.
