Rusty Seized Solid Drill Press Restoration & Repair - Part 1 - Teardown and Electrical Repairs

Welcome back to another restoration! There's a hell of a lot of parts and a lot of repair work on this one so I've split it into two parts!

Bit of background: I don't know much about where this drill came from originally, but I bought if for peanuts from a guy who was going to scrap it. He thought I was mad to buy it and swore it was broken beyond repair, sounded like a good challenge to me!

Started off with a strip down, a lot of the bearings are gritty so they all need replacing, few bent parts, few missing parts, but for the majority of bits it's just a bit of rust removal, paint and polish.

The motor however is in a right mess! I've seen a lot of strange things in motors but this is the first time I've seen one seized because of this issue! Amazingly I was able to remove the fouling from the windings without damaging them, it needed a bit of taping up and revarnishing but other than that everything was electrically sound. Still makes a bit of a hum, once windings have moved they never sit right again, but it's a lot quieter than I was expecting tbh, and I'm more than happy with the outcome!

Part 2 will be along soon, still waiting on a few parts arriving, but it's well under way now!

Thanks for watching, and if you like what you see please thumbs up, comment and subscribe for more!
