Old and rusty lantern restoration - from trash to gold
I bought this old railroad lantern on eBay for cheap.
As I understood, in the beginning, it was a signal lamp with yellow and red glass for sending signals, as well as with a mount for installation on wagons.
Later, it was converted into a lineman's lamp. The colored glass and the mount for the wagons were removed from it. In this form, he came to me.
There were a great many different modifications of such lamps. It took me a lot of work to understand what this lantern was initially until I found on the network the site of the railway museum in which there were pictures of a similar lantern. Judging by the photo, it was completely yellow on the outside.

09:07 Paint baking
09:30 Hammer paint painting
10:34 Bluing
10:53 Assembling
11:50 Final result
I've started with disassembling and found a broken mount at the top. Therefore, holes were drilled in the top, and it was held onto the wire.
During disassembly, I found a piece of paper dated 1949 on which there were some calculations in a column. Message from the past :)
After disassembly, I tried to sandblast all parts. My sandblasting chamber is outside. Since the rainy weather has come, I could not finish the sandblasting and had to sand some parts manually.
I tried to weld the holes by welding, but I failed because the metal was very thin.
I soldered the holes with a soldering iron and tin. After that, I once again sanded everything and prepared for painting.
Inside and on top, I painted with heat-resistant paint and baked it in the oven to make it strong. I painted the rest of the parts with gold hammer paint.
It turned out very elegantly. I like the combination of yellow and black.
I replaced the old glass and wick and also cleaned and painted the kerosene container.
I love how it turned out.
Thanks for watching.
