Africa's Emerging Youth Boom

Join us in another episode of the Africa Matters webinar series where, we zone in on Africa's Emerging Youth Boom. Is this youth boom a burden or an opportunity? And how do we harness our youthful population for African prosperity?

This conversation will be lead by Maryam Elgoni, a Youth Engagement Officer at the United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) regional office.

Maryam has been working in the youth development space for several years, and is passionate about youth engagement, advocacy and capacity building. She has engaged with the UNICEF Generation 2030 reports extensively over the past years and is currently leading work on the development of a Youth Advocacy Guide. The guide, a completely youth-developed project, aims to be a tool used by young people to help create meaningful change in their communities.

Maryam has been involved with South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) since her high school days as a participant, assisted as a volunteer during her undergraduate years, worked as the Youth Programmes Intern in her honours’ year, and completed her post as the Youth Programmes Officer in 2018.

She has an honours degree in International Relations from the University of the Witwatersrand. Maryam also has a background in Economics and Marketing, which she studied during her undergraduate BComm degree.

Prepare questions and use this opportunity to interact live with our phenomenal speaker from wherever you are in the world.

Let's leverage technology for critical dialogue in Africa.
