Shoulder Mobility Test
Goals
Can he/she move through ROM pain free?
Can he/she CARs?
Scoring Criteria
0=pain
1=Greater than 2x the height of the hand distance between fists
2=Between 1 and 1.5 times the height of the hand difference between fists
3=less than the height of the hand distance between fists.
ROM Test
With the right hand make a fist with your thumb inside of your fingers (hook grip).
Bring your fist over your head and place it as far down your spine on your back as possible without pain.
With the left hand make a fist with your thumb inside of your fingers (same as above).
Bring your left fist under and behind your back and place it as far up your spine as possible.
Switch sides and repeat.
CARs
Place resting hand on stomach.
With thumb facing towards your belly button raise the moving arm straight up to directly overhead as straight as possible.
At the top, twist thumb and hand away from belly button in a clockwise movement, then bring arm down behind the body as straight as possible.
The goal is to make the largest circle with a straight arm as possible while remaining pain free.
Repeat 2 more times.
Switch arms and repeat 3 times.
