Why the Free Will Debate Is Quietly Shaping What IQ Researchers Are Allowed to Find

Whether you see humans as automatons controlled by genes and environment or as agents with genuine free will has real consequences for how science gets done. If ideological commitments to free will or biological determinism start filtering which research questions are acceptable and which results are permitted, the entire enterprise of empirical science is compromised. The ideal scientist follows the truth wherever it leads and nowhere more urgently than on controversial subjects. Those are precisely the questions where getting the facts right matters most. But when semi theological concerns about determinism and agency start shaping what IQ researchers are willing to ask or willing to publish, the science stops being science.
