NavIC, short for Navigation with Indian Constellation, is India’s indigenous satellite navigation system developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It was created to deliver precise positioning and timing services within India and up to about 1,500 km beyond its borders. While similar to the Global Positioning System (GPS) used in the United States, NavIC is specifically designed to cater to the Indian subcontinent and surrounding regions. In essence, NavIC reflects India’s dedication to establishing its own navigation infrastructure, serving both civilian and military requirements with accuracy and dependability.
