Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor (Mississippi John Hurt)

This blues standard dates back to the 19th century, and it has been covered by several artists. Mississippi John Hurt was the first to record it, however, and the song is generally associated with him. My take on this is patterned after a performance I heard by Gillian Welch, who claimed she learned it from Doc Watson. Gillian's interpretation is a departure from John's version, but it's quite compelling in its own right.
