The Border Target Operating Model – what it means for your business

The government has published a draft plan for implementing import controls on goods entering Britain from the EU and non-EU countries.

The Border Target Operating Model (TOM) has been developed by the government in partnership with industry and the devolved administrations. The Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT) has been involved in extensive consultations with government and industry throughout the TOM's creation.

The proposed model also includes a new digital approach to implementing border controls, including sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) checks.

In a free 1-hour webinar on Wednesday 12 April, the IOE&IT gave an update on the key details of the model and its implications for traders.

The webinar covered:

How the UK is planning to implement changes to import controls
The proposed approach to UK trade including, but not limited to, SPS checks and safety and security declarations
The proposed role of the UK Single Trade Window and Ecosystem of Trust
The draft timeline of changes and how traders can prepare
How your business can provide input on the final version of the model
