Johnny Cox & Siemy Di

It's been great to finally be able to get together with other musicians on a regular basis this summer after such a strange year (and a half). Siemy and I first played together in 2005 and we met up this week to have a jam at his house. While we were there we recorded this tune of mine in 7/8. I wrote it last year in lockdown and it was nice to finally play it with another musician.

I recorded the bass and drums using my Headrush Looperboard. Siemy is playing Roland V Drums (electronic drum kit). We can't use an acoustic drum kit as we're playing at home with no sound proofing. The Headrush Looperboard has four inputs and the bass and the V drums are both connected to the looperboard through separate inputs. The other bass part was overdubbed afterwards.

One big advantage of using the electronic drum kit is that you can record it by connecting it to a recording device with just a single cable. It would be much harder to record an acoustic kit like this. It would be possible with three mics, a bass drum mic and two overheads, but the electric kit has enormous practical benefits as well as being very quiet to record for the sake of the neighbours.
