Trading Ten Beat Cycles with Siemy Di - Playing Over a Loop Created Using a Headrush Looperboard

This is the second video clip that I've released from my recent visit to my friend and long time collaborator Siemy Di.

In this clip we are trading ten beats. In the first 20 seconds of the video you see me setting up a loop with my Headrush Looperboard. I start by playing a short bass groove in five, then I layer some chords over the bass line. Once that's done, we start trading. Each of us takes ten beats to improvise, and it goes back and forth between us until the end. You can think of each improvisation as being two bars of 5/4.

This is an idea that Siemy and I used often when we played gigs together as a duo. I would take a basic looper pedal to our gigs (I wish the Headrush Looperboard had existed then) and we would loop a groove in an odd meter and trade improvised lines over the groove.
