Hi, everyone. Jesse here with etrailer. Today, we'll be taking a look at, and I'll show you how to install the etrailer Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver on our 2025 Audi Q5. Adding a hitch allows you to add extra storage space onto the back of your vehicle, whether it be something like a cargo carrier or a bike rack, or you can even do some towing with it. Just remember if you plan on doing any kind of towing with your vehicle, you will need to add on trailer wiring to stay safe and legal on the road. The hitch actually installs behind the fascia here, so you won't have any visible cross beams or anything like that.
You really only be able to see the receiver. You have a nice, matte-black paint finish on this receiver, and the opening of it is your standard, 2-inch x 2-inch opening. Behind that is another standard 5/8-inch pinhole. The pin and clip not included with the hitch, however, we have many options available here at etrailer. Also, any accessory that you add on will most likely come with one included.
On the bottom here for your towing, we have a wire-type safety chain loop. Very easy to access with whatever style safety chain you have. For example, an S-style like that (clangs) or even a large clevis like this. We'll take some quick measurements starting with our ground clearance. From the ground to the top of the inside of the collar here, we're sitting at right about 14 inches.
Then from the center of our pinhole to the edge of our bumper is at about four inches. You wanna keep that number in mind for any folding accessories that you might add on to ensure they don't make contact with the vehicle. As for our weight capacities with this hitch, we have a gross trailer weight of 5,000 pounds. That's the amount of weight that you can pull behind the vehicle. Then we have a maximum tongue weight of 750 pounds.
That's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. Always be sure to double check your Audi's owner's manual. Compare those numbers and go with the lowest-rated component to ensure that you're safe out there on the road. Once the hitch is installed, will my hands-free lift gate assist still function properly The answer with the Q5 is, yes it will. There's really nothing that changes. It's still gonna be in that same spot. If you have any other questions or concerns about this hitch or anything else we offer here at etrailer, feel free to reach out to us. We'd be happy to get you pointed in the right direction. When it comes to the installation with this hitch, it's honestly a pretty difficult process. You do have to remove the fascia in order to get that nice clean install. So, I really understand if you're not looking to do this yourself. Check out our dealer locator. You can find someone local to you that would be happy to get you set up. If you are looking to see how this gets installed, then follow along, and I'll walk you through the process. To begin our installation, we have some T25 torx screws to remove. There's gonna be one on each side and then a handful in the middle. So, just work your way from one side to the other, getting all those removed. (power tool whirring) Now, inside of our wheel well, we have some more T25 screws to remove. (power tool whirring) So, there's one on the bottom there right here and another one up top. (power tool whirring) Once you have those removed, we have two nuts here to remove, and these will be 10 millimeter. (power tool whirring) But if we peel back on this felt liner here, pull it back and get it out of our way, there's gonna be some more torx screws to remove. (power tool whirring) There's one right here and one up top. And this is holding this plastic liner on. (power tool whirring) We'll get those removed. We need to pull back on this plastic liner, so just get your fingers behind it and pull straight back. It's just held in by some clips, (plastic liner snaps) so we'll just get 'em released one at a time. You can kind of feel where they're located and then pull straight on that. We're gonna get one more 'cause we have a screw back here that we need to get access to. (plastic liner snaps) So, with those pulled back, there's our T25 torx screw that we'll take out. (wrench clicking) If you open your hatch, we'll come to our tail lights. We'll be removing both of them. So we have to take this plastic cover off first and
