Dick: The 50's and 60's had some great rock and roll. It's time now to move into the 70's. Let's stop for a minute here and think about it. The 50's, we had hoola hoops, the 60's, lovebeads, what about the 70's? Well, we were sort of on the move in the 70's. We had skateboards, yes, I tried one of those once. It was a total disaster. Rollerskates, very very big. Great way to go, no way you could stay alive on one of these. Now, if you were into something a little more intellectual in the 70's, this was it. The pet rock... nice Laura? Uh?

Laura: Real nice, Dick. But, we were into a whole different kind of rock in the 70's.
Chuck: Yeah, they go by the name of Three Dog Night.

Laura: When I first heard this next band play, in the 70's, the rock and roll rumor mill said they were European.
Chuck: I heard they were from Venezuela.
Laura: Well, the truth is they came right out of America's heartland, with their own brand of great rock and roll.
Chuck: Well, you got that right. Cheap Trick.

:: Cheap Trick, "I Want You To Want Me" :: (sound muted due to youtube block)

Dick: The 70's. To borrow from Charles Dickens, were the best of times, and the worst of times. A bungled break in into a Washington hotel resulted into a major scandle known as Watergate. It would eventually reach all the way into the white house and force the resignation of President Richard Nixon. (Nixon: I shall resign the presidency effective at noon tomorrow). And, the 70's brought us an oil shortage and gas lines. And, guess who we found in this 1973 gasline. That gave birth to the compact forgien car explosion in America. On a more possitive note, we celebrated our 200th birthday, in 1976. And, enjoyed the recreational scientific discovery of the decade, video games. Gloria Steinem lead the women's fight for equal rights in the 70's. And, Billie Jean King hammered the point home by beating Bobby Riggs in the ultimate tennis match of the decade.

Laura: And, while Billie Jean and Bobby were hammering it out on the court, this band was turning out hit after hit. 15 top 20 hits in the 70's, and hot again in the 80's.
Chuck: Do it again, Three Dog Night.

:: Three Dog Night, "Eli's Coming" ::
