Holst 'In the Street of Ouled Nails' ('Beni Mora' Oriental Suite)

This music was inspired by a visit that Gustav Holst made to Algeria in 1908. It is the third movement of his "Beni Mora" Oriental Suite and evokes the playing by an Arab of the same phrase on a bamboo flute over and over again for two hours without stopping. Holst didn't go to such extremes in his Suite, though he retained the repeated figure throughout to colourful and hypnotising effect. It is played here by the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Sascha Goetzel.
