How to Know Your Calling

To whom does samsara belong?

If you can get a sense of the self, the core of all samsaric perception, then you've put yourself in a position between the God Self and the individual perceiver, which is at the heart of samsara—to whom samsara belongs. This position gives us much more of a buffer, much more of a protection, to the otherwise convincing gusts and flurries of samsara.

You want to start with developing a gentle awareness of the subtle sense of the core seed, the mustard seed that contains the whole sprouting of samsara. That's typically your sense of ‘I am’. But it's still associated with a location, a body, a person, some history, desires.

If you can find that core seed, and realize, “Oh my God—every portion of the illusion I've been experiencing pertains to this, belongs to this, exists only because of this little entity”—if you can have your awareness of that—you're going to be migrating prior to it, and you're going to penetrate that bubble.

Meditate on this. Pause, and say, "Wait a second… what does this even belong to? This belongs to some core level of consciousness.” Because it's much easier to observe one thing and toss it out the window, or to realize it's not limiting what you are, than it is to deal with every single little element of your experience and try to free yourself from each element—to try to not be attached to it, try to see through the illusion of it, and so forth.

It's much easier to bring it all back down to one thing, and then see how you are not limited to that one thing.

We can collapse the whole world in our understanding—to living inside of something. Then, we can observe that single something and be free of that, which frees us of the whole world that pertains to that level.

You can see through the countless number of illusions by seeing through this one illusion. If you see through the core of a host of illusions, you're instantly liberated in that moment.

Now, you might forget again, but in that moment of recognition, of realization, you will feel a genuine freedom from every single element that pertained to that level of consciousness. And that's a really magical experience to have at least once in your life.
