Woody Allen said that Bergman had found a way to "show the soul's landscape" through his long close-ups of silent faces. There is no doubt that the human face is one of the most intense ways of expressing emotions and feelings in cinema. When we focus on it, without any dialogue, only the face transfigured by the events, something unspeakable can be communicated... something that transcends words. 

The fluids that go down the faces of ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’ don’t just underline these emotions. In many occasions, they add new layers of meanings, mixing with each other, amplifying the interpretations and forms of experimenting the “landscape of the soul”.

Según Woody Allen, Bergman había conseguido “mostrar el paisaje del alma” a través de sus largos primeros planos de rostros en silencio. Sin duda, el rostro en el cine es una de las formas mas directas de transmitir emociones y sentimientos. Cuando nos centramos en él, sin diálogos, solo en el rostro transfigurado por los acontecimientos, se consigue comunicar algo inefable… algo que trasciende a las palabras.
