Hey everyone, in this book summary & review video I cover the top lessons from Becoming by Michelle Obama.

1) The Challenge of belonging - being a cool kid, a smart kid, too black, too white, straddle two cultures and belonging to neither

2) The leadership quality of "When they go low, we go high"

3) All leaders need VULNERABILITY & SUPPORT SISTERS!
The struggle of balancing things, supporting an ambitious president elect, seeking normalcy, having a tribe & sisterhood to support you, regular retreats - these are all reasons why Michelle Obama is who she is. She has support but also owns her story/struggle. To add to this, she talks about marriage counselling, IVF, meeting the queen so OPENLY. Wow.

4) COMMITMENT TO SOCIAL CHANGE.
Obama spent all his spare change on books. Michelle Obama describes how he was worrying about income inequality in his spare time. Is this something we dedicate our thinking time to?

5) The journey of BECOMING not BEING. Do we settle for what is or work for the world as it should be? She talks about change not being a fixed point. Adulthood not being a fixed point. But Becoming. Becoming a wife. Becoming a first lady. Becoming & OWNING all those things on her own terms. And ultimately, focusing on your own journey of becoming.
