Mapping A Legacy: Jazz Preservation Through Curation
A panel discussion on the legacy of jazz in central Brooklyn, the act of music curation, and the preservation of Jazz history. The panelists discussed the act of music and data curation and how it will contribute to the collective architecture of Jazz in Brooklyn. The discussion was moderated by archivist and curator Anika Paris, who helped with the curation of the 2014 exhibition of Weeksville’s Lost Jazz Shrines; musician and scholar Ras Moshe Burnett, who loaned his record collection for the exhibition; and Bob Myers the financial secretary and communications director for the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium, a vanguard organization in the borough. He is also the former owner of Up Over Jazz Café, a pure jazz piano venue that was a popular Brooklyn “outpost” for NYC’s music aficionados, and a hang-out for young musicians.
