Weeksville Heritage Center presents: Tracing Your Roots

In collaboration with Weeksville Heritage Center, Mocada, Archival Alchemy, and Brooklyn Connection as part of Research Refracted and The Legacy Project’s public training series, this virtual event on genealogy research will focus on the skills needed for tracing African diasporan heritage and understanding the specific challenges and strategies for conducting genealogical research in the context of the legacy of slavery and Colonialism.

Presenters include genealogist practitioner Timothy Prolific Edwaujonte, who will discuss his personal journey to uncovering the narrative of his family’s history; a brief presentation on oral history methodology to help recover family pasts that have been undocumented by oral historian Obden Mondésir; and a live demonstration of how to use Familysearch.org and other free resources available for genealogical research by NYPL librarian Jermaine Dennis.
