The Story of Hanni Begg

As a teenage girl hiding in the ruins of Berlin in 1945, Hanni Begg ran through the fighting on the front line to say good bye to her father as he lay dying. After burying him in a garden, she was captured by the Russians, tortured and then fled to Britain where she joined the newly formed National Health Service that called out to nurses across the world to staff the new hospitals being built. She married a young medical student, settled in Guisborough, North Yorkshire where she became a pillar of the local community.
