Onion and Garlic - The Ayurvedic Philosophy
Ayurveda has classified foods based on the six tastes - sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy, and astringent. Garlic, like amla, is considered a very potent herb, it's a rare food that contains five of the six tastes and is therefore capable of curing several disorders. Dr. Neelesh Korde, in this video, also throws light on why those people on the spiritual path were advised to abstain from consumption of garlic and onion. Today, however, these foods are not taboo and dietary advice is based on moderation and one's digestive capacity.
