Why is the Corpse Reviver #2 the most popular? - Cocktail Masterclass
Not nearly as scary as it sounds, The Corpse Reviver number 2 is a fantastic cocktail that works wonders if you happen to be suffering the affects of a big night out. Crisp and refreshing it will have you up and about in no time!!
In this masterclass episode I cover the history and origins of the Corpse Reviver family, I look at the products I've chosen to make a great one and discuss some of the techniques required to get the perfect balance.
If you are in a hurry you can skip straight to 4:19 or check out the Make it Quick version here - https://youtu.be/HxUwkTuadkk.
SPECS:
20ml Gin (I’m using Tanqueray)
20ml Cocchi Americano or lillet (the original recipe called for Kina Lillet but that is no longer made)
20ml Curacao or Triple Sec (I'm using the local & delicious Marionette, but something like Cointreau works well and is easy to find anywhere)
20ml lemon juice
Absinthe rinse
Lemon twist garnish (optional)
You will also need a…
Citrus press
Jigger
Shaking tin
Some good ice
Hawthorn strainer
Fine strainer
Coupe glass
Atomiser (if possible)
METHOD:
The easiest way to achieve the ‘rinse’ is to find a little atomiser like the kind used for perfume. Just remember that this is just a supporting act here so don’t overdo it!
If you don’t have an atomiser, just pop a little dribble in to your glass and swirl it round, trying to get as close to the rim of the glass as possible, then discard the rest.
Craddock’s original recipe doesn’t feature a twist, so purists will say this drink should be unadorned. Personally, I like the lift a lemon twist gives it, and if you’re going to squeeze the lemon anyway may as well make use of the zest! Waste not want not…
Add all your ingredients into a your tin. Fill with ice & shake hard.
Double strain in to your chilled, absinthe rinsed coupe.
If you're using a twist, give it a sharp fold or two to expel the oils over the drink and glass, then twist it so you can lay it nicely over the edge of the coupe.
The delicious Corpse Reviver number two,
So now you know!
